Our Story

Back in 2008, 4 friends got together and had a vision….a vision that young people should take an active role in the community, should stand up, speak out and be counted. These 4 had something to say, and were determined to make themselves heard. They wanted to be taken seriously, and they wanted to make a difference.
SO they set up a community group called Enable Youth – a group just for young people, aged 10 and up to 25 yrs. Enable Youth was set up to be a focus for other young people to get their voices heard too. A group where they would help young people speak out, to take action in their communities across Harborough District, and to make real lasting changes on things that affect young people.
Since 2010, Enable Youth have been supported by the Big Lottery funded Rural Youth Voice project, and with this additional boost have grown and changed to become a real focus for young people in Harborough District to get their voices heard, take action, and make changes.
Over the past 2 years, membership of Enable Youth has grown to over 200, and members have been involved in lots of exciting developments in the local area, including:
- Activity events in Lutterworth, Fleckney and Broughton Astley
- Making films about our lives and what’s important to us
- Getting involved in Carnival in Market Harborough
- Creating and running Harborough Districts only music festival for young people, by young people – Rock on the Rec
- Running a social media project to connect with other young people and add to the network of youth voices across Harborough District
And we won’t stop there….there are still so many things we want to do, and any member of Enable Youth can suggest another project for us to get stuck into. So what are you waiting for? Become a member now, and let us know what you want to do.
